Mommies Don’t Have Time to be Sick

Phew. Sorry for the silence this week, but I came down with a lovely little ick that has been no fun to deal with. Throat, cough, on/off stuffiness, achy all over. Add to that Mr. Acorns traveling Tuesday through Thursday, and this mama was not exactly inspired to write much of anything this week.

It’s funny. When you are a kid, and you get sick, you just want your mommy. Now that I am the mommy, and I get sick, I have realized that there isn’t actually time to be sick. Everyone tells you to get some rest, push your fluids, do this, do that. And it’s all great advice, but it’s so far beyond the bounds of the reality of a sick mom. I still had to do every dropoff and pickup, prepare everything for the week, tend to every need, kiss every ouchie, and deal with every tantrum. Oh and actually do my job too. No curling up in bed after I finished work, no sleeping in an extra 30 minutes. There are two little ones who need me, so I get up and go about my day, and stay awake until they are tucked in bed and sleeping soundly. And then get online to whine and moan about not feeling well. And finish the laundry. And the dishes. Ah well. Not fun. The good side? Being sick led to far less “Mr. Acorns is traveling” insomnia since I couldn’t stay awake feeling so cruddy.

Mr. Acorns returned from his trip this week feeling the same ick, but I think we are both on the upswing of it so hopefully two sick parents will be better than one for this weekend. Our weekend plans are very simple, thankfully: putting away fall decorations and taking out the Christmas ones. I hope to get in some crafting, but there will mostly be a lot of playing and a fun family weekend. Tomorrow will also bring the arrival of our Elf on the Shelf, so I’m excited to see what Boy decides to name him!

I already posted our weekend meal ideas (see Tuesday’s post), and will post a review of the recipes Sunday after we decide what we are doing with that pork roast. Which I should probably go take out of the freezer now.

Happy weekend everyone!
