Well-Being Wednesday – August 22, 2012

Well, it’s weigh-in week…. and while I almost skipped the scale after a late-night bowl of fried rice, I got brave and got on to face the facts:

Current Weight: 159.2

Change from July weigh-in: -1 (160.2)

Change from Start of Journey: -10lbs

It has been a LONG 6 weeks of no exercise thanks to my knee injury, and since it is yet again that time of the month, I’m a bloated, water-retaining disaster on top of it all. Plus, I ate like crap with leftover chinese food all week, so that’s my fault, no one else’s.

But in good news, I saw my knee doctor on Monday for my follow-up and I am cleared to start up my training again. Slowly, obviously, but slow is better than nothing. So as we head off for vacation this weekend, I am certainly packing my running gear, hoping for some cool Minnesota & Wisconsin mornings and pain-free running. I’m totally putting a few of my ice wraps in the ship-ahead box tomorrow though, just in case.

And in even  better news, today I had my very first visit with a therapist. Yes, I finally made the call and made an appointment. I was skeptical, nervous, and unsure, but I think it’s going to be a good thing. After my anxiety attack 10 or so days ago I have really, really been working hard to refocus when I feel either anxiety, or anger, or frustration rising up inside. My patience with the kids has been much improved, and I think Mr. Acorns would say I’ve been overall a bit easier to deal with the past week or so. I’m hopeful that I will continue to learn new tools to help me process my feelings, both in the moment and afterward.

I have my new agenda/planner that is already wowing me with how organized I can stay – it is seriously MUCH easier for me already compared to using multiple tools for work and personal planning, etc. I was hoping to take some yarn to MN to crochet a bit, but I’m not sure I’ll really have that much relaxing time with two kids and some work to do. But I may take it just to inspire myself if nothing else. I have a Kindle full of new books begging to be read. I have sundresses for days and cozy yoga pants and fleece for cool cabin nights. I’m so ready!!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful week. And remember – this isn’t just a weight loss post, it’s a well-being post. Because health is about so much more than just the number on the scale. That is important for physical health on many levels, but doing things that make your heart and your brain happy are also important. Just remember – it’s not a race, it’s a journey. Let’s help each other enjoy the view and learn a few things along the way.
